Local Government Pensions, both in payment and preserved will increase by 5.2% from 9th April 2012. If you left the scheme less than a year ago you may not get the full increase but you will start to get the full increases from next year.
Pensions increase (PI) is paid to all pensioners aged 55 or over; or at any age if you retired on ill-health grounds or become permanently unfit for regular work after retiring. PI is paid at any age if the pension is a widow’s, widower’s, partner’s or child’s pension. PI is also applied to Preserved Benefits.

Reduction in Lifetime Allowance and Applications for Fixed Protection -- DOWNLOAD |
|
| |
There is currently a tax threshold on the amount of pensions savings of £1.8m and this is being reduced to £1.5 m with effect from 6th April 2012. Members who are already above £1.5m or think that they may breach the threshold before retirement can apply for a protection certificate from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) that protects them from an additional tax liability when they retire.
What are the terms of fixed protection? .........

Customer Service Excellence Award -- |
|
| |
Just over 12 months ago the Authority achieved the award for Customer Service Excellence. In order to maintain our accreditation we were required to undergo a surveillance visit 12 months after we successfully achieve the award. The main focus of the surveillance was to look at what progress had been made against any development points raised in the initial report and any changes that have occurred since our first assessment.
Our surveillance visit took place last Friday and I am pleased to announce that not only have we maintained the award by demonstrating our commitment to continually improve our service but we have successfully increased our compliance rating from 98.5% to 100%.
The assessor was very impressed with the work we do and commented it was refreshing to see an organisation that doesn’t stand still. He said we are a forward thinking organisation constantly looking to improve. |
