Our annual report for 2022/2023 is now available to read in full on our website and in the attachment on this news story (simply click download at the bottom of the article), but we’d like to give you a quick summary of some of our achievements from the last financial year.
Despite the turbulence that we have seen in financial markets over the last year we have been able to maintain the strong funding position and our overall approach of looking to run the Fund in a way which is less exposed to volatility than the average due to our all weather portfolio which performed better than the benchmark.
As you will see throughout our Annual Report it has been another busy year with a number of key events punctuating the year
Some of the highlights for 2022/2023 included:
- Following the Customer Service Excellence assessment in March, we received confirmation in May 2022 that we can proudly continue to display the CSE Logo for another 12 months.
- In September, Pensions Awareness Week 2022 saw us run our first ever hybrid pension sessions for members from our Oakwell House Offices in Barnsley and from September 2022 to March 2023 we had nearly 1,000 members join us, in person and online, for a range of sessions from understanding their pension, planning for retirement and learning how to use their mypension accounts.
- In October 2022 actuarial valuation results for the whole fund were announced, revealing that at 31 March 2022, for the first time in many years the Pension Fund had more assets than future liabilities, reflecting the success of our long term investment strategy.
- December 2022 brought award success with SYPA being crowned Pension Fund of the Year (Assets over £2.5bn) at the LAPF Investment Awards, a testament to all our employees’ hard work.
- We also received agreement of a medium-term resourcing plan designed to ensure that the Authority has sufficient staff resources to maintain a sustainable organisation and to deliver the quality-of-service members rightly expect going into the future.
- March 2023 saw us unveil exciting plans that will see the South Yorkshire region to benefit from £500 million in ‘Levelling Up’ investment and our plans to invest more to support the move to a lower carbon economy in our 2023 Investment Strategy.
