South Yorkshire Pensions Authority is organised into three groups of activity.

Pension Administration

Our largest group is the Pensions Administration department, which is at the heart of our operations, supporting our 170,000 scheme members. Within this department, there are dedicate teams:

The Employer Services Team’s primary focus is to manage the employer lifecycle within the Fund and to ensure that we are providing the training and support necessary to ensure that employers can fulfil the duties which fall to them from participation in the Fund.

You will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the team and drive forward service changes and improvements ensuring that the team provides effective support to employers and leading on the implementation of new and innovative ways of delivering training and support.

The Technical Support Team has two primary functions, one is to provide (pensions) technical support to the Benefits, Customer Services and Pension Systems teams and the other is to provide leadership and direction to work to maintain and improve data quality.

You will provide technical pensions support to all teams within the Administration service and to pension fund employers and to ensure the Authority abides by the Pensions Regulators General Code and is fully compliant with the statutory provisions of the LGPS and wider pension legislation, providing guidance to internal teams and implementing measures to ensure compliance where required.

This dynamic team manages case work and processes data from our employers, ensuring that our members receive great service. This is the largest team in our organisation and includes several smaller teams, including an MDC team.

Serves as the first point of contact for our members and employers and handles enquiries through phone, emails, and live chat.

Handle incoming and outgoing post, as well as keeping addresses and life & death certificates up to date. They also support member events such as our Annual General Meeting and member presentations.

Responsible for enhancing our pension system, this team tests and implements upgrades, develops reports, and streamlines processes to enhance service quality.

They have two functions; the first is to provide technical support and training to the other teams, and the second is to improve the engagement with our customers and members. They also host several member sessions every month.

Resources

This team provides a range of corporate support services for the whole organisation across various domains and consists of several small teams:

From newsletters to social media, this team manages all member communications. They maintain our internal communication channels and create communication strategies and reports.

The work of the team includes processing and accounting for contributions income and pension benefits payable, investment transactions, the collection of income, payment of creditors, staff payroll, reconciliation of bank accounts, treasury management, annual accounts, budget preparation, financial forecasts, and the maintenance of financial controls.

They are responsible for providing support to the Senior Management Team and oversee the effective operation of the Authority’s governance arrangements including the servicing of the Authority and its Committees and other formal meetings.

From recruitment to employee well-being, this team manages HR processes, attendance records, sickness absence, and promotes well-being initiatives. They also produce statistical information and management reports.

Powering our organization's technology needs, they support desktops, networks, websites, and develop specialized pension-related software.

Investment Strategy

The is a small team responsible for the development and implementation of the Fund’s investment strategy and the oversight of those managing money on behalf of the Authority.

The team are responsible for ensuring that the Fund operates in line with the Authority’s statement of beliefs regarding responsible investment which is central to the way in which we invest and is also one of our corporate objectives alongside achieving the investment returns necessary to achieve full funding of the scheme.
